Basically there are three ways to protect inventions at an international level:

PCT national phase: PCT system applicants to enter the PCT national phase in the designated countries where protection is desired within 30 or 31 months from the first filing/priority date.

Direct Patent: Filing of a patent application in individual countries to claim protection using the first filing date of the initial application as the effective filing date in another contracting state. This filing must be performed within 12 months from the first filing/priority date.

European Patent: Once a European Patent is granted the applicant shall file a validation in each designated country with specific translation requirements. The deadline for compliance with these requirements is 3 months from the date of publication of the decision to grant a patent in the European Patent Bulletin.

Through our international network of agents, SHIP undertakes the filing of all needed documents regardless of the option chosen.
