Filing SPC Application

A Supplementary Protection Certificate (SPC) application is used to obtain this additional protection.

The SPC does not protect the entire patent, only the active ingredient of the patented drug. However, in practice, it means that the essential part of the patent has extended protection, which comes into force when the patent expires.

An SPC application must demonstrate that the medication has been marketed in the country in which the application was filed.
